10 strategies to help you survive this festive season!

1. Don't leave the house hungry.

Make sure you fill up with something healthy before leaving the house to avoid mindless snacking.

2. Listen to your body.

If you feel a hunger pang wait another 30-60 minutes to make sure its not just a craving and is real hunger.

3. Plan before hand.

Before going to a festive party or event plan what you will allow yourself for example plan to have 2 drinks , a portion of protein and veg and a dessert or allow your self 2 plates and 2 glasses.

4. Don't settle by the food table.

Don't eat just because others are, don't just pick up snacks.

5. 50% Rule.

After you have eaten 50% of your plate assess if you need more, if you are not full eat another 50% of what is left and so on.

6. Stop when you are 80% full.

Follow the 50% rule and stop when you are 80% full.

7. Log what you eat.

Try logging what you eat if the 80% or 50% rule doesn't work for you, this way you will be aware of your calorie and macronutrient intake.

8. Eat Slowly.

Chew up to 15x per mouthful, ensure your brain gets the 'full up' signal from your stomach.

9. Drink water.

Always have a glass of water with you and keep refilling it! This habit not only keeps you hydrated and helps you avoid a hangover but will also help keep your stomach fuller.

10. No Guilt Treats.

Allow yourself what you want! this doesn't mean mindless eating but have a no guilt treat, something you crave or like, chose wisely and enjoy every bite!
